Milky Way In The Trees

I took this photo while camping last weekend. The trees are pinon pines -- quite green in the daylight, but here they are lit by firelight.

    Yup ... 154 seconds to be exact. I have other shots with much shorter times, but the trees didn't glow like this.

    I do love the Canon 10-22 @ 10mm for these shots. Now I just need to perfect my focus in the dark.

    Very nice shot, great effect on the trees. Amazing you don't have any sparks going up in the picture, or did you clean those out in post?

    Your shot came out pretty well. Nice foreground interest and bright stars. Seems a little blurry center up and not so much everywhere else. Still, a
    nice take. What f stop? Focus @ infinity or? :D

    I didn't have any sparks from the fire -- wasn't that close to the fire.

    Yeah, the picture is blurry because I didn't get the focus spot on. I was lazy and just guessed -- by setting the indicator to infinity. Normally I would AF on a brighter distant object, or use live mode, but everything was so dark it would make it harder. 154 seconds, f3.5, 10-22mm @ 10mm, iso 400

    rolleyes1.gifLazy. Know the score there. A flashlight helps tons to focus foreground
    in the dark. Infinity is finicky in night shots. Its not always right on the bar.
    Sometimes a tad before or after the marker. Pays to make note where it is
    given whatever lens once you hit sharp and know it for sure.
