I like the effect of the shimmering light on the water, and the slight blurring due to the shutter speed, but I don't know about the overall composition.

It seems to me that there are three things: (1) guy on left, (2) people in centre, (3) people on right.

I think the people in the middle against the shimmering light could be a composition in itself; perhaps you might even be able to include the people on the right.

The chap on the left: I'm not sure where he comes into it; is he with someone we can't see? Is he on his own? Is he lonely tonight and is about to jump in the water and get drownded? If he did, would any of the others even notice? Would the others care? Do we care?

I want to know what they have in the bags… Food? Lunch perhaps? Tasty treats? Supper?

The little blue lights are cool.

The colour of the shimmering light intrigues me as there are also reflections from other lights which are white and not so bright. Is the shimmering light really green, or is it from fluorescent lights?

The boards on the dock are nice and in focus.

Seriously though, you might want to crop even tighter to remove the space and blue light on the left now that Mr. Lonely has jumped (just an idea, see what happens)

Go back to the original composition - every question Wil asked is the kind of question a good 'street photo' should provoke. The original composition nicely frames the couple - your main subject - with the single individual one one side and couple on the other. Each individual or group appears oblivious to the presence of the other, which is a reality of urban life. This is a lovely capture of an evening scene. Stick with what you've got.

Hi Aaron,

This is a good shot. And while I think all the discussion on possible crops has been covered, the only technical suggestion would be to try to work with the image to create some contrast between the non-shiny water and the boardwalk as they feel to close in tone and colour and it leaves the image feeling somewhat flat for me. Otherwise, I like what you've allowed to happen with the motion blur.
