Color space problems?

Hello,

I noticed that my pictures on smugmug looked off today. I noticed it after I bought a new monitor (Dell U2410) and installed Windows 7 and reinstalling all my software. The photos don't look as saturated as they were originally. And I'm noticing a bit of a green color cast. I've viewed my photos on other monitors before and have not noticed this desaturation or green color on my photos before so I'm assuming my previous setup was correct. The monitor is calibrated using a Spyder2.

They DO look correct in:
Smugmug using Internet Explorer
Smugmug's flash slideshow of the album in Firefox

They DO NOT look correct in:
Smugmug using Firefox
Lightroom
Photoshop

Does anyone know what is going on? I find it weird that in Firefox it will look different whether it is the Smugmug HTML page you are viewing or the Flash Slideshow that you are viewing.

    Which color space is the JPG in that you are doing this comparison with?

    The first three are NOT color managed, the 2nd are. So the one’s that “look wrong” are previewing correctly. You may not like they way they preview but that’s the reality of the RGB pixels, assuming your display profile is OK.

    Yeah I thought it was weird that the color managed programs looked incorrect to me. I have a feeling it is my display profile. I recently bought a 24" Dell U2410 which is apparently a wide gamut monitor. I am not an expert on monitor calibration but I just used a Spyder2 I had and followed the directions on the Spyder2 software. Could I be doing something wrong?

    I’d expect the Spyder2 hardware to do a practically crappy job on a wide gamut display.

    Any recommendations then? How do you properly calibrate a wide gamut monitor? What hardware would be good? Maybe I should have just stuck with a regular monitor haha.

    I don't beleive that the Spyder 2 is capable of calibrating a wide gamut monitor. You need to step up to the Spyder 3 elite. Not sure what would do the job in the eye one tools (by xrite) for wide gamut, but before buying anything new, check that out. Perhaps a post asking for recommendation of calibration devices capable of working with a wide gamut display will provide an answer.

    The filter matrixes are expecting a non wide gamut (sRGB like) display. The Spyder 3 is said to be better (more filters), or you can purchase a device that’s designed for this task like a ColorMunki.
