Multiple specialties

Everyone here is a photographer, that is a given. Do any of you do more than one type of photography? Such as on the Consumer side; portraits, events, wedding, and on the business side; product photography, corporate portraits, promotional photography.

If you do operate in these specialized fields, is it a good idea to keep the consumer and business separate? I know a couple photographers who operate under their own name when doing portraits and weddings, but then under a separate business name when they do Executive portraits, and promotional photography. Is this a good idea, or can they both live united as one company?

I offer all sorts of services, yet I primarily focus on commercial product photography and sub out the rest. With the generic business name, I can have anyone work under the name, as well as offer any type of service.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking the same thing, but it did seem logical when he was talking. Keeping the commercial work and the consumer work separate would look a bit more professional, but your site doesn't seem to be too bad. Did you do it all with Smugmug, or is your site itself hosted on another site, just linked to the galleries on Smugmug?

The site is 100% smugmug, although I do not use it nearly as well as I should when it comes to my commercial work. Everything is still done with a book and proofs. Maybe one day I can join the 21st century and use my site like it should be used.

You did a great job on your site. Mine doesn't look anywhere close to how I'd like it to look. I love the way yours is laid out.

Maybe once I start earning money again I can pay a pro to hook me up.
