Wow. Did you should that in the day light?? It looks like the took the gym roof off for you to shoot. Those are really great captures.

I am hoping to get some shots that nice this year when I shoot BBall.. Can you share your settings?? I would like to learn..

I had two Alien Bees 1600's - one mounted on a light stand in the corner of the gym and the other one clamped to the top handrail on the opposite side of the court. So I did all of my shooting on one end of the court.

With this setup, I had a Canon 1D MK III w/70-200 f/2.8L lens and Skyports to trigger the strobes.

1/200 sec, ISO 320, f/3.2 worked out well for me. I shot 4 games in a tournament, 4 more to go today and 6 tomorrow.

So far, no complaints about the lights. I told the refs I would shut them down if a coach complained.

Okay being the vampire that I am (always shooting without a flash or strobe at night in low light action) I have a question. Your shots are amazing but everything that I have learned shooting low light action sports is that you need to be at least 1/500 or higher to catch the action or even higher. The 1/200 seems slow to stop the action do you vary it and the ISO even with the strobes to avoid blurr?? Maybe the strobes are changing the info just trying to pick your brain.. Thanks so much for the previous info..

The brief blink of light from the strobes overpowers the ambient light and freezes the action. It's much faster than the 1/200 SS. If I wanted less ambient light, I could shoot at 1/250 or 1/160 for more ambient light. My camera actually syncs at 1/300 but I haven't been using it.
