Newbie Indoor Swim Meet - Things I Learned

Well I spent most of Saturday and Sunday taking swim pictures. Here are some things I learned.

1) It was fun for a while but it is work.

2) Photos don't do well lying on a table with water dripping from the ceiling - got some plastic covers for day two

3) Kids and Parents seem to like the fly photos best especially with arms extended - unfortunately most of those kids don't have the best form.

4) It's hard to get backstroke photos looking down from the ends - I think sides are probably better

5) Freestyle pictures are tough especially when the kids are just beating the water and it is going everywhere

6) $29 for knee pads from Home Depot is the best money I've spent in a long time

7) and Finally.... If you create a "package" form for people to order "offline - since we don't have packages yet", make sure you include spaces for the buyer's contact information like ---> Name, Phone Number, Address, email, etc.... :scratch

All in all it was fun but the experience was much more valuable than the sales. I know they are not great but here are a few shots....

6) $29 for knee pads from Home Depot is the best money I've spent in a long time

First thing I bought when I started shooting my son's baseball - a nice set of gel-filled carpet layer's kneepads. Yes, I'm sure I look dorky wearing them, but any such concerns are gone after about 20 minutes when I think about how bad my knees would be hurting otherwise.

nice pix .. and i have to give a big yes to the knee pads.. i too overcame the look of dorkishness after several shoots with sore knees.. i now keep a spare set in truck in case..in my picture to the right they are under my pants legs..

#1 is a fantastic shot. The others are good but #1 is the real winner for me.

I too got over the looking goofy pretty quick compared to the otherwise pain in the knees. I think I stuck out anyway with the white zoom lens so the knee pads just completed the look.
Curtis - I like the idea of a spare pair in the truck (car in my case). For a few moments on Sunday I was worried I had left them at home.

it's save my knees a few times .. i just wrap them tight and slid them under the back seat .. also handy when i changed a flat for a lady ..
