Here are a four shots from last nights Providence Women Friars vs Buffalo game. I normally just shoot up close and personal but last night I tried a few wider perspective shots from under the net, with reasonably good effect, and have attached two below.
Enjoy.

Great shots! How do you get the action shots so sharp and in focus? Are you using flash at all? auto ISO? Mind sharing your settings and work flow? Thx

    Hi, Thank you.

The settings are pretty standard and are driven by the poor lighting in the gym:

Camera settings: (Flash is not allowed in the gym)

    Aperture priority

ISO1600 and 3200 ( It really needed 3200 but I took a few shots at slower shutter speeds which put a blur on the ball)

    F stop: wide open (I was using f/2.8 zoom lenses 24mm to 70mm and 70mm to 200mm)

    Metering : center weighted

Shutter speed, with the lens wide open, is controlled by the ISO setting - I would have preferred a faster shutter speed but the laws of physics were against me.The 40D body goes no higher than 3200.

    Workflow.

I normally just use Lightroom but because of the high ISO, I exported these from Lightroom and batch processed them using a PS action to adjust levels, apply Neat Image (to remove ISO noise) and apply an unsharp mask.

    Hope that helps.

    George.

I would guess that the attendance was a couple of hundred, maybe a little more.

Awesome, I'd say you got the very best out of a 40D. However your WB leaves a lot to be desired, imo. Poor #10 looks like a ghost. A little warmer maybe?
