"Save for Web" not an available option

My friend gave me an old copy of Photoshop 6 and I've been doing a little experimenting with trying to make a watermark and website header. (I have no photoshop experience.) I was following Andy's instructions in the tutorial, but when I went to do the save - "Save for web..." isn't an option that I can select. Am I missing a step here or something? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Here's a screenshot.

Is your pic in 8-bit, RGB mode?

Not 100% certain, but wondering if the image needs to have layers "flattened" in order to be compatible.

I'm not sure. Where would I look to find this out?

I had tried that, but unfortunately it didn't work either.

It may have something to do with transparency? Try just saving it as a PNG, that should be just fine for a watermark on Smug.

It won't let me just do a Save As and change it to a PNG either. That isn't even an option in the drop-down. I wonder if it has something to do with it being an older version of Photoshop??

This is actually a fairly common problem that is usually fixed by reinstalling photoshop. I've seen it happen in v5 and v6.

Save your image as PSD and then uninstall, reboot machine, reinstall, reboot machine.

Othere then that, seems like your image should save fine. ne_nau.gif

Thanks. I was afraid it might be something like that.

Hopefully it works, which is better then not having access at all. mwink.gif

Sometimes the files for Photoshop installs seem to get corrupted (the .dll files), I have no idea why - but that is why a reinstall usually solves it.
