Trying to copy...am I getting it right?

I really enjoy the desaturated/overexposed look... here is my attempt to copy, please let me know if I am getting close and what I can do to accomplish it...

I would not call this look desaturated + unless it's because of the size / quality of the photo you uploaded, you totally blew her skin :cry

You actually saturated it more. The desaturated, overexposed look works in bright sunlight and bright skys. It lets you turn crappy lighting into something unique with just a reflector. The photo you posted has a background with a lot of color and details. You should brighten just the subject slightly and darken the background a little too to saturate the colors. You have a good photo here, but the post processed version you posted is a step back, not a step forward.

I like the look

the second one... the redo looks bad IMO..very dark and orange. I think that you could probably improve your edit by taking town the exposure..just a notch.. over all .. I like it.

The new edit you posted is over-saturated. You need to find a balance between the original (which is pretty flat) and what you've posted (which is too contrasty and too saturated).
