It's DONE! Here's our consolidated trip book on blurb. As in the past, there's no markup, no one's making anything on it, it's just something fun for us. And a memento of the trip. After all the mixed results with the various covers last year, this year there is only one cover type. (also because I couldn't get booksmart to make both hardcover books look good at the same time.) It's $50 plus shipping.

Old post
Hey folks, just a reminder for those that went to the shootout this year, we're doing a book again! I had hoped to have a submission process in the works by now, but work got in the way.

As mentioned at the shootout, the deadline for submissions will be the end of the year, if I don't get the submission process online pretty soon I'll push that out to give folks time to submit their images.

But you should probably be working up your images now if you haven't already! :)

For lack of a response at the shootout, I'll be sticking with the same setup as last year: limit to 3 images per dgrinner, same size book (standard landscape) and using the same publisher (blurb).

Since there were fewer folks shooting this year, that means a smaller book, which means a cheaper book, which at least 2 people asked for.

I'm also looking for verbiage if anyone wants to contribute any to the book... let me know.

Watch this thread for future announcements. :thumb

UPDATE (1/3/2010): The submission system is live: ...redated.... Of course this is just a front end to a gallery on SmugMug.

I've done the same protections as Schmoo did last year I think, the gallery is locked down (password should be obvious to those that were there... PM me if not.) and images are limited to M. Please submit full size Originals though (standard SmugMug limits apply.) so we have plenty of pixels for the book.

UPDATE (1/4/2010): A couple folks asked about new deadline for submission since I blew having the entry page ready in time for the old one. Let's say Jan 31, 2010... that'll give folks a month to get them submitted.

--
edited to fix the book details, I was thinking of the wrong book when I wrote that.
updated to add submission details.

Sorry about the delay folks, I think I've got it ready to go. I'll do some final testing tomorrow after I get some sleep, and then post the url for the submission page here.

Ok folks, a couple people have confirmed it's working now, so I've updated the first post in the thread with directions. Sorry about the huge delay, I'm on plan C here after A and B fell through... and as Ann mentions, I've been busy shipping awesomeness at work which has taken all my time.

    Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "login directions for gallery password and email"?

The process to submit an image has no login. Just goto http://alice.cabbey.net/ and fill in the information, select the file from your pc and hit submit.

The gallery the images are put in after submission is just a standard SmugMug viewing password. It's currently empty as there are no submitted images, so it might look like it failed to get in I guess.

If you're hitting a problem, let me know on which step and specifically what you're seeing.

I did that and got errors. It would not submit my attached photo.

Ah, thanks guys... looks like larger files + slower connections (i.e. not gige that I tested over and not multiple OC that both the other testers had) = fail. Working on it now.

UPDATE: should be good to go now. Sorry about that... oddball cobination of settings that wasn't what I expected and testing didn't find.

Got it to work! Thanks for the effort cabbey.

11doh.gif one small goof up on my part though, I grabbed the wrong one in one of my uploads. It's the one that says Seal Harbor and is a gawd awful red colored image of Bass Harbor Lighthouse that is covered with dust. Can you delete it so I can upload the one I really wanted to upload?

For the rest of the Dgrinner's that attended the Shootout, I'm submitting this one and would like to properly recognize those in the image but my memory is nowhere near what it used to be. Going from left to right I've got the following:

    1) Marc Muench
    2) Fred W.
    3) ???
    4) ???
    5) Dan Plumer
    6) ???

This would have the morning of Oct 9th when a whole bunch of us met at Thunder Hole. Any assistance with identification would be greatly appreciated.

go ahead and upload the correct one via the same form, it doesn't count and limit you. :) I'll remove the other one shortly.

Best bet for any adjustments to images in the gallery is to comment on the photo with what needs to be changed.

I missed this thread, but thanks to FredW for mentioning it in his recent thread! I am away for a few days but will submit some shots soon.

Cabbey -- I would be glad to help with some text if you give me an idea of what is needed. Best to send me a PM if you can.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the info. I'll spend some time on a couple of images that I really like too. And, what would you like text-wise?

D'oh, sorry about that... looks like the intermediate server didn't restart properly after it was relocated this weekend. All fixed now.

Lauren / Redleash temporarily out of commission
Hi guys. Lauren asked me to let you know that she mised the deadline because she's in hospital with pneumonia. If she gets out and feels up to it in time, I'm sure she'll submit some things. I'm sure she's disappointed but health comes first.

Please join me in wishing her well - and a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm going to be taking down the submission server later today. I saved space for Lauren's images, which are here now. Looks like we'll wind up with about 50 images total.. not a bad book. :)

I've got a couple folks lined up to review a draft, hope to have that ready for them in 2 weeks, and the proof back from the printer a week or so after that. I expect the book will be available for purchase in mid March then.

Great! Thanks, Chris, for all the work going into this project. Last couple of years there was a web preview of the book online @ Blurb. Can that be set up for this issue too?
