Hmm...the faces stand out more in the color version, but the posture of the guy bending down is less apparent somehow. I prefer the crop. I guess that makes it two to one.
Thanks for the comments. I'd shown the image to a few people over the holidays and I was regularly asked what the two people were reaching toward. The alternative crop brings the slippers the old man assembled into view, but I agree that it loses some of the sense of struggle.
