Hi Ian.......those surfers can get themselves into some pretty amazing positions on their boards, I have watched them down near the surf beaches close to where I live, but my lenses have just not had the reach to capture them.

What lens is your choice for capturing Surfing Shots ??
Thanks for sharing Ian........ Skippy (Australia)

It depends on the conditions. But usually a 500mm.

Very cool Ian, is this from the area by the lighthouse where we all shot a couple of months back?

I need to go there again soon, I really enjoyed shooting there. Although I didn't walk away with anything nearly as good as your shots... Excellent Job thumb.gifthumb.gif

Very crisp photos, Ian. I've only had my 20D a few months, but I quickly realized how fun it is to shoot surf -- thanks to the NSL matches we had down this way.

Did that swell we had early last week have any impact up your way? We had the biggest surf I've ever seen in my short tenure (1 year) here in LA.

Something was supposed to hit yesterday/today. But I ususally don't get out during
the week as work gets in the way :)

Scott, I'll take a look at your site.

Here's how that SW swell looked down here (just north of Malibu):

Are there any surf events (formal or informal) happening up your way this month?

I'm not too sure what's happening contest wise but there are often
big name surfers in the water during the week. Weekends are crazy.

The lineup can be full enough that you'll see some of this:

    14631653-M.jpg

Sometimes worse. I've seen guys who've spent the morning in the water
never catch one wave because of the crowd.

I need to spend some time at other spots. South of Steamer's is the
lighthouse, pleasure point, etc. I like the opportunity in Pacifica as
    well.

Scott, I took a look through your gallery. Nice stuff you've got!

Glad you liked them Ian. If you, or anyone reading this for that matter, would ever like to contribute some of their pics to SurfHunt, please let me know. I would put their pics in an "article", give the contributing photog full credit, and I can also put a link to their web-site if they like. I am looking for pics from those epic days. I'm hoping that other surf photogs out there can help provide me with some excellent content for my site, and in return I'm hoping that I can help them with a little recognition for their work, as well as point others back to those photogs sites. I'm just putting this out there if anyone is interested.

    Thanks very much,
    Scout
