Do either of these two work for this challenge? C&C appreciated. Thanks.

#1 - Color version

#1b - Color version (warmer)

#2 - B&W Version

I'd say they work great! I prefer the color version. I love the long shadows on the snow.

Just gorgeous, Linda.

I love the color version, but for the challenge I personally would choose the b&w. Something about the starkness of the b&w works for me. It fits with mid-winter.

That said, the color one sure is a stunner. An argument sure can be made that it has the elusive "wow" factor.

PS - With the b&w, I would crop it to a square to focus on the trees.

Linda 1 is beautiful. Snow shots usually work well in BW but this one definitely works better in color IMHO. The blue tones are really nice

They're both great, Linda, but that yellow light on the ground in the color version gives the first one so much more pop. Have you tried to increase the saturation on the yellows some more? Or if you have shot in raw, drag the White Balance slider to the right a little and see if you get more pop out of the picture. You can make 2 copies of the same picture and use the warmer version for the foreground and cooler version for the sky by doing proper masking.

Sorry I probably won't be much help...it's a toss up for me,
I like them both

I think in the end, you should choose the one
that you think is best, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these.

Allen -- that was a really good call on adding back some of the warmth to that photo. Thanks so much for mentioning it! It was there in the original but I had lost it when I played around with some post processing. I've updated the first post with the revision.

I agree, I love the warmer color version. Its funny because I posted a similar shot this morning, and mine seems to work best in B+W, whereas I love the color in your shot.

UPDATE: Oooh, I just saw that you put the #1 before and after together in your post and I noticed that you've now lost some beautiful blue in the sky in the "warmer" version. If that is how you like it, then all is good, but I feel like you should have masked out the sky from this conversion, because the blue was really pretty in original #1.

I thought about that, too. But the second edit with the warmer sky is closer to the original RAW file.

I still have time to play with it, though.

Nice work there.

I really enjoy #1b, I prefer that warmer tone you created, it adds a bit more to the scene then the other versions in my opinion.
