I went to the last concert in Australia last night - and almost certainly their last ever in Australia. It was held at Subiaco Oval, and it was packed to bursting. I took my two daughters, my God-daughter, and one of my youngest daughter's friends. As luck would have it, we managed to position ourselves one row back from the barriers, right in front of the stage. I couldn't have hoped for a better place to watch them go through their paces. Only P&S cameras were allowed in, and I wound up having to take my Ixus100 after I couldn't find the charger for my G7. Oh well, at least I managed to get 'some' images. Here are some for your viewing pleasure (I hope!). :)

Years ago - many years ago -My wife I went to a Joan Baez concert at Ravinia in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park. Ms Baez stood on an open outside stage in the middle of a wooded area and sang for an hour or so.

No opening act, no fireworks, no colored lights or laser beams, no costumes, no stage set, no smoke...just Joan Baez's clear and beautiful voice under the stars.

And we were entertained. It's a bit sad to me that the crowds today need an extravaganza of visual and audio excess to be entertained.

    But you took good photographs.

I'm not so sure about that, Tony. I think it's just a case of 'horses for courses'. It's a completely different musical genre - Joan Baez' style of music would never fit in with anything that looked remotely like and extravaganza, but for a massive rock 'n roll act? I think it suits that sort of music. FWIW, I saw Diana Krall a couple of weeks ago, and that was just like you're describing with Joan Baez (essentially). In its own way, it was just as good - and certainly an absolute pleasure.
