Attended my first race of the year this last weekend where I pulled double duty as a racer and the photog (which is very, very hard to do). Conditions were far from good with a constand hard wind which made the track dry out and gave way to dusty conditions. Oh well, it was still a blast.

Enjoy

    How'd you do racing?

I like 18 and 20. 18 for the angle though not so much for the background. And 20 for the eyes.

1st moto I was 4th around first corner and cut the inside like I was doing with you that day and moved into 3rd by the second turn. I stayed there for half a lap until I slid out of a muddy corner and two riders passed me. I stayed in 5th for another lap and a half then made the mistake of putting me foot down in a very muddy corner and it stuck, bringing me and the bike down on top of me. By the time I got up and going again, everyone was half a lap ahead of me so I just pulled off to save my energy for the 2nd moto.

2nd moto I pull up to the gate, warm the bike up, then the starter starts walking pointing at everyone getting the Ok, I put the bike in gear and let the clutch out a bit to make sure I was in gear and the bike died!! I started kicking it and it started just as the gate dropped and I dropped the clutch and wheelied then stalled. I was so mad! By the time I took off everyone was two turns ahead of me. I was able to get by two riders before the checkered flag. I was so bummed. Oh well, next race in two weeks!

Here an updated pick of my bike.

Yea, there is no good background at that track!! It is a pasture turned track surrounded by pasture. The RV's and trucks park all around the track, so it's damn hard to get a clear background unfortunately. Because of that, I shot at 2.8 pretty much all day to try and blur the background as best I could.

Russ, I remember those double duty days, but for me, they were 25, or so, years ago. Made for a busy day. mwink.gif

I really like 2,7,16, and 17. But the backgrounds on the others are too busy, IMHO, including, #20. I know fellow dgrinner 'Amadeus' got tired of hearing me say it, but; "background, background, background." Isolate, the rider.

I'm sure that since you were racing, it limited your shooting locations.

Btw, I shot my local track's Loretta Lynn's qualifier last weekend. I'll get some shots posted in a day, or two.

Yes, I just saw that. But, due to some family phone calls, that post of mine took about 15 minutes to complete. :D

I really like #2. Has a cool feel to it, is pretty clean and has good light.

That track looks like it might help to get a bit higher and shoot down into the dirt a little?
Or get really low and close with a wide angle if the sky is looking good?

    Nice shots.

Up here in Idaho we race all year long. The track we belong to has a summer track (dirt/clay/sand) and a winter track (sand). We got shut out once due to frozen ground, but the racing has been good!
