Strangely duplicated images

I'm not sure what is going on here. See: http://mercphoto.smugmug.com/keyword/71-2005jul16/1/28722700 Notice how the last three images are blanks. Notice their filenames are the same as the last three found images. I can't find where they are, or how to get rid of them. I'm also not sure how much this is happening elsewhere.

Hmmm. 3 Missing images for me. Showed up in a keyword search

I just noticed a very similar problem in my gallery on a keyword URL. Look at http://jfriend.smugmug.com/keyword/sara-alaska and you see three improperly rendered thumbs. When I track these three filenames down, I find that they are photos which do NOT show up in the gallery where they should be.

So, this leads me to a possible conclusion. These three photos were part of my original upload ot one of my galleries. Something happened to the files during the upload and they didn't upload properly (though no errors were reported to me at the time). The main gallery is NOT showing them for this reason, the keyword search is finding them but can't render them so they show in this broken fashion.

In case it matters, I used Star*Explorer for the upload.

What bothers me more than the keyword display problem is the fact that some of the images that I intended to upload may have not uploaded properly and I was not notified. That means I lost some images from my gallery without realizing it. Now that I know it in this gallery, it's fixable since I can re-upload the effected files. But, I wonder if I've lost other images from my uploads - particular in my multi-hundred image uploads for large events. Kind of shakes the confidence.

Can anyone from Smugmug shed any light on what might have happened here, how I fix the broken keyword search display I see now and how we prevent this in the future?

Here's a screen shot of what I see at http://jfriend.smugmug.com/keyword/sara-alaska

    Very weird..

I am having the same problem: http://asd.smugmug.com/keyword/vista

2 broken images show up for me. I remember removing a few images after tagging and setting up my album - perhaps they've left their keywords behind to cause trouble? I don't remember if I had tagged them 'vista' or not though.

followup: Yes, I think those are images I deleted. I remember deleting 3 images after finishing my album (so that it'd be one page shorter umph.gif); browsing on my munich keyword (which applied to all images in the album) right now I've noticed 3 spots where there were those broken image link thingies.

Have you guys been using the new Java uploader? I have noticed odd things happening with that new tool.

I use the Mac OS-X native uploader, and upload from iPhoto albums.

During the upload, were you doing any editing of caption/keywords in the gallery? Anything at all like that while the upload was progressing?

    Sorry about that..
Do you think you still have logs from that upload?
You can search by the file name inside the *.log files and retrieve the info.. it might help to investigate...

Been working on this problem for a few days. It should be cleared up in another ~4 days or so, for good.

Some pipes in smugmug got clogged, so to speak. Ben had this suggestion so I administered a triple dose. :)

    It's not Nik's fault. :)

If there's anyone to blame, it'd be these punks for changing behavior with a patch and not documenting it.

Brilliant Ben's suggestion worked! The Ex-Lax has worked its way through the system. :)

Mine is cleared up now. The keyword search doesn't show any broken images anymore.

Did I lose a few images on my upload? The three broken images that showed up in the keyword search are real images that are not in my original gallery. Did these get dropped in the original upload?
