A North Cascades National Park Adventure

I go to North Cascades National Park often and mostly in the winter and spring. This time of year there is no one around, several miles of road to get to the trailhead which is under feet of snow, and views that are as good as anywhere I've been.

Here are a few images from a ski descent of the NW Face of Pelton Peak. It was great skiing, 7500-ft worth and good times. I hope you guys enjoy! Hopefully I can get back up there in a few days.

Almost as impressive is your ability to name all the peaks and glaciers

My secret...I've been up most of them, plus I am always crouching over a map. We don't travel by trails so we always go by topo maps. When you are traveling 15-20 miles in a day, there is a lot more terrain being covered than the pics allude too (for example this peak has only been skied once). Many climbers and skiers passion are learning the names of peaks and using maps to explore different approach options to the mountains.

Glad you liked the pics. I'm still working my way through more. They just take a long time on my slow PC. Each photoshop action must take a minute. I think I must throw this computer out the window! Ha. But it's all good. I'll be back in the mountains soon.

stunning images, as usual. love them all but am particularly taken by the action in 1; the shadows, slope, ski trail and the sobering old avalanche debris in 13, and the glimpse of the hard work in 20. thanks for all your hard work in showing the beauty of the north cascades... especially areas that i doubt that i will have a chance or fortitude to explore in the snowy season!

The North Cascade National Park is among the least visited national parks and I find it especially awesome for its lack of roads (none) and trails (a lot but much of the park is for cross-country travel only). You should certainly go visit. It will be worth it, especially if you get good weather. Any advice, let me know. I'd be happy to point you in a direction.

Jason, I think you covered this before but you have to refresh my memory. I know you need to travel light, so what lens are you using to get this incredible range of shots??

I own two lenses: A 17-35mm 2.8 nikon lens and a 2.8 150mm fixed sigma. I bring both on every trip I go on. The 17-35 is holding up well, although the 150 sig seems to be taking some damage, but not due to anything it lacks (a great lens), but just the general beating I've put it through in the last 10 months.

Unfortunately they are not light.

I'm glad you guys like the images. I work hard at them and love when others appreciate.
