Chicago panorama, and a couple questions!

This was my first real attempt at trying to stitch a few photos together. This was 3, and if you look at the original you shouldn't have too much of a problem seeing where they cut off.
These were taken pre-20D, with a 3.2 Olympus. The total cropped Tiff image is 5581 x 1462 and is about 23 megs. It also lists it as having 100 pixels per cm.
So, on to the questions.
Any ideas on how big I could print this and have it look decent hanging on a wall about 8' off the floor? Or wouldn't it be worth it?
Also, one of the online printing places list panoramas as 12" tall and 6" tall, by however long the print is. If I remember right from Shay's post, 150 pixels per inch puts it at roughly 9.75" x 37", does this sound right? I'm thinking that might be a bit too large to look good.
Thanks for any help!
Eric

you can print it huuuuuuuuuuge if you want - it's a function of viewing distance. take a gander at bigposters if you want to go really huge :D

If it's gonna be 8' off the floor, you could probably have Smugmug/EZPrints do it 12" high x whatever length and it would look great from that distance. To get it to 12", just add a solid border (white, black, whatever color works for you) to get it to the 1800 pixels you would need. You could do the same for the length to get a more even ratio or number better suited for whatever frame you can find. IMHO, the hard part would be getting a frame to fit. BTW, It looks good, too. thumb.gif

Thanks for the info guys. I'll give it a try.
On another note, I posted this over a month ago and pretty much forgot about it. Looking tonight I saw "Chicago Panorama" and thought I'd check it out and see how it compared to mine. When I opened the thread, I saw my picture and thought, holy cow, that looks just like mine!

Hey Caddy, I have used a similar service with the option of 6" or 12"

I have done mostly the 12" and all have been amazing quality with the exception of one but it was because it was my first one and I used original photos that were 800x600.

Here are some demensions of ones I've printed

    16mb tiff
    6264x895 px
    72 px/in

    30.5mb tiff
    9105x1170 px
    72 pc/in

2.74mb tiff (the one that was too small)
    2299x417 px
    72 pc/in

    16mb tiff
    6264x895 px
    72 px/in

    12mb tiff
    4736x896 px
    72 px/in

Hope this helps a little. One of them, I think it was the 30mb one was about 8 feet long. More like wallpaper than a picutre:D

    Thanks Scott,
I'll give it a try. Might just have to have it higher than I expected on the wall!
