Going to Yellowstone this July

Hey guys and gals,
I'm headed to Yellowstone and GTNP next month and I would like to know from people that have been there what you recommend as must see and any special gear I should take with me.

BTW, I'm thinking about renting a 300mm or 400mm lens. What's your take on that. I already have a 70-200 f2.8 but i might need a bit more reach for the wildlife. So what do you think?

    Moving over to location so you'll have some travel eyes on it.

    I think the 400 is a better choice. Combined with a 1.4TC, you'd be set for most things.

    Why stop at a 300 or 400? I would suggest renting a 500! mwink.gif

    Laughing.gif, probably not a bad idea getting the 500. Unfortunately it's not the only thing i'll be lugging around. I still have my other lenses and filters plus a backpack with hiking stuff as well.

    This reminds me though, any suggestions on how to carry the tripod?

    if your pack has a water bottle holder, you can stick two of the legs into that and then use the strap at the top to hold the tripod in. Or fasten it to the back of your pack. I think it all depends on straps and pocket situation on your back.

    Yeah I'm going to have to get a little creative with the tripod. As a matter of fact I'm bringing 2, my good one a Manfrotto and a cheaper lighter one I have for traveling. I'll user the good one for the camera and the lighter one for a spotting scope I have.
