U12 softball tourney

Shot 3 of the 4 playoff games of my daughters team (sat out one game so the pro agency - Crazy 7 Photography - could get some selling shots) I was trying to get some tighter crops of the action, had some pretty harsh mid-day sun (uncommon around these parts :rofl). C&C appreciated.

    Some nice shots here. Focus is good. The bokeh on your lens is a bit problematic - the trees in the first shot for example. That's a tough nut to crack as it takes pricey lenses to improve that. You've got some nice slides here - the biggest detriment is distracting backgrounds - especially #2 with the legs right on top of the helmet & #3 with the fence/trees and that bokeh issue. The good news is - you're doing your part very well. Unfortunately to overcome these DOF/bokeh issues would require a more expensive lens. And with other outdoor sports it may not be as much of an issue. Good job!

    I am curious what the bokeh issue is. I understand what bokeh is but i don't see the problem. Can you help me understand? edumakate meh plees :)

    Heya guys, First off, thanks for the input Johng, you are right, I do need to spend mucho for better lenses.......the other part of the equation here is that I am using an Olympus with a 2x crop factor, so my dof is not as shallow as the FF cams or even APS-C sensors. But I would love to buy a Zuiko 150/2 (equiv to 300/2) if I had the $2400 bones to spare mwink.gif, care to help? Laughing.gif - just kidding.

    toybreaker71, thanks for the defense......but I see johng's point. If I had a faster lens and was able to throw the background oof more....... That shot in #1, the trees completely oof would have given a nice smooth emerald colored background instead of what is obviously an oof tree.

    In shot two.....again, the dof I had really and clearly shows the feet of the opposing teams coach making it look like they are coming out of the girls helmet. With a better lens, it may have thrown them oof more making it not so obvious they were feet - but I could have better fixed this by changing my angle of view, right John?

    Anyways, thanks for looking and chiming in. Maybe when I make more money at my day job and from side photo shoots, I can get some better gear. :D
