This is my first serious attempt at short duration, high speed, multiple flash with slower shutter speeds to freeze the wing action.
Last year, for the most part, I was experiamenting with 'High Speed Sync' and high shutter speeds, up to 1/8000 sec., with limited success at stopping the motion.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

I don't really understand what you did here...not using a flash myself...but it certainly worked!!!

I'm usually not a fan of hummer/flash shots but these are Good :)

Great detail, wing motion and almost natural colors....

    Cheers, Don

I guess there are no focus issues with your 1DMK4, are there?

Folks, unless you have tried to shoot hummers, with really long glass, you have no idea how hard this can be. Those little guys will drive you nuts trying to follow them with a 600mm lens. I know, I've tried.

    Very nice captures!!

Beeeeeeeutiful !!!! My favorite is #4 Wow spectacular, I am going to check out that link as I too don't understand the flash tech, but I have attempted to get a few hummers and it is a challenge just to get a shot never mind stunners like these. Fantastic.

Wow, those are amazingly clear shots. I'll have to follow the link you provided to see what you're up to here. I can usually just hear the hummers as they dart around the yard. You seem to have a way to get them to pose for you! Terrific images.
