Framing

I was going to check out various frame shops in the area, and didn't get very far. The first one I checked, mostly because it was also a gallery, sucked me in pretty good.

I know he wants me to keep coming back and it seems like he sees potential in my work and feels he can get a decent business from me. He took me in the back where the work is done, showed me what he would lke to do for each shot and gave me pointers about how much more I should price up the sale just for the frame, not the pic.

However, this is the first time I've framed my work professionaly. I'm getting 8x12 prints, matted, framed, backed, with glass in an 11x14 frame (wood) for $25 apiece. It sounded to me to good to be true, but that's what he quoted. The framing he does looks nice from all that he had there in the galley. He wants me to bring in more and suggested in the future he could possibly have a showing of my work there.

So, those of you who have\had your work framed professionaly, what is your opinion of this, and what are your suggestions and experiences you'd like to share to help me out and maybe others with similar questions?

depending on the style of frame moulding, $25 sounds like a very good price.

11x14 frame, glass and backing is a standard size, so you can find them from inexpensive all the way to second-mortgage in price. A matte for an 8x12 to an 11x14 is not standard (to best of my knowledge). However, I've done prints that way before, and it does look nice.

The price of $25 sounds good. How is the glass? That would be my prime concern, the quality of the glass.

I would look into this some more. I tend to like the metal frames, but that said this price sounds too good to be true.

Just the museum glass alone will run $25 or more, not counting the wood frame, acid free 4 mil (8 mil) single mattining (probably custom cut for 8X12), acid free foam backing, tape, and labor.

Not counting museum glass, it looks like the price for an online kit with wood frame, 4 mil acid free mat (I could only find standard mat with 8X10 opening), acid free foam backing board, and acrylic would start at about $24.00.

Also you may want to look at 12X16 for an 8X12 photo.
