Badlands

So the better half and I took a trip out and up to SD about 3 weeks back. We spent about 2 days in Wall, SD and toured through the upper section of Badlands NP. Then another 2 days in the Black Hills. Here is some of what I was able to come home with from Badlands.

    crazy late afternoon and evening storms rolled through with hail and tornadoes daily within the western part of the state. Wish I had another week out there.

    Very enjoyable series. I really liked the early morning color shot (#2). Just curious, why'd you choose 1/6 @ f22?

    actually #2 was shot at sunset with sun setting on the badlands. I really do not know why I chose f/22 1/6 on that shot. Only thing I can think of is that the aperture had not been changed when I changed from the 24-70 to the 70-200. I probably was 1) being lazy, and 2) more engaged in the scenery so I was just adjusting exposure time to suit the changing light. All was tripod mounted and due to no trees, was not concerned with wind movement. Appreciated the positive feedback though :)

    These are awesome and the storm shots with weird lighting are my favorites. Is it really-darned-hot out there this time of year?

    Ah . . . 'cause the exif says it was shot at 09:16, which to my military mind says morning.

    You have some terrific shots here. I particularly like the storm pictures, but many of the others are also striking. I can't for the life of me see why even bandits on the run would want to head out into that territory.

    I really love seeing your images of the badlands of SD! I live in SD on the SE side but am currently moving out to the hills :D

    your images are an inspiration i will take with me when i go back out next week.

    The color pictures really does this place justice. #2 is just gorgeous. And I am loving #6. This is a great set.
