Back in the summer of this year, I had my very first wedding. I second shot for a photographer friend. It was quite an experience, now I know what kind of pressure is involved in weddings. I used to aspire to become a wedding photographer someday (ok, well not really) but after experiencing all that, I'm having second thoughts..maybe I'll just relegate myself to being a second shooter :D
So to all the wedding photographers, I doff my hats off to you.
Sorry for the big post but let this also serve as my audition for those looking for 2nd shooters in the future :D
CC is always welcome. thanks!

WOW! Awesome job! You did great with the girls getting ready. I wish I had a 2nd shooter like you! But with skill like that you should be shooting for yourself. And great use of light!

Wow. Really nice. What camera and lens did you use for this?

If you don't mind me asking, and being someone who wants to be doing this.... what did you charge? PM me if you want, it's cool if you're not comfortable sharing, but I think you did a really great job..

I echo this. Very helpful to know the lenses and some of the basic tactics. E.g. did you use a flash the whole time?

I don't think there's much flash used here... If there is, I'd like to pay him to tell me what he did. :) Lot's of great natural light there... at least in the first few shots, you can see a big window in the room.

all the "getting ready" shots were done with natural lighting. i had this huge hotel window that served as my light source (see that huge window on #9). i also had a reflector but as far as i remember, i only used it on #7.

i used a 580ex on cam for fill on most of the reception shots.

    can't exactly recall but for the hotel shots, i think i used a 35L on a 5D2 and 24-70L on a 5Dc

my next goal is to learn how to use OCF on receptions

btw, i was not paid much for this wedding as i was just the 2nd shooter and a first timer at that. i even could have gone for free. i just wanted to have a taste of what is it like to be a wedding photographer.

    Hey Relsah!

This is a really nice first outing for sure. You were thoughtful in your compositions, you found or made nice lighting, and you got some good emotions ta boot! I would certainly hire you to 2nd shoot with me if you were in my area. You are most definitely showing potential as a wedding shooter. As for being ready for primary, I wouldn't rush into that if I were you. As you found out, there is a lot to it. I see a lot of good here but honestly nothing that is making me go WOW! Surprises are only surprises if you haven't experienced them before, and that is a big part of the job... there is always something. It is a good idea to have a fair number of those surprises under your belt before flying solo. So, take that for what it is worth... As for this set, the only real negaitive I can give you is skin tones and white balance. 21 looks perfect to my eye and 30 she looks blue. Simple adjustment though so nbd.

Really nice work overall. If you are in the Milwaukee area you can pm me for real, I may have some work for you.

    +1

I've seen a lot of would-be-pros that aren't this good...not nearly. Any bride will be more than thrilled to see quality work like this in her wedding album.

Thanks for sharing...good work. Keep at it...there's money in it for talent like yours...big money.
Remember, no one may want you to take pictures, but they all want to see them.
