Domain name help

I recently purchased and registered my new domain name using smugmug custom domains. I followed the instructions and entered it into the custom hostname section of the control panel, and when I do that I get an error message saying this...

That hostname doesn't appear to be valid. Your hostname needs to be setup using a CNAME record at your domain registrar. See our help section on custom hostnames.

I'm not sure what the problem is, could it be that I need to purchase hosting too?

When you purchase a domain from http://www.smugmugdomains.com it is already setup for use with your SmugMug site. Do you know if you changed anything in the DNS settings? If you let me know the domain name I can look it up and let you know what needs to be changed. The host records you need to have are:

    @ A record pointing to 208.79.45.23
www CNAME record pointing to domains.smugmug.com

Make sure you only have one @ A record.

I am having the same problem, when I type the URL into my browser, it goes to the Smugmug home page I've checked the host records, and they seem to be they same you've listed. My domain name is cy-photos.com

Did you guys enter the custom domain into your SmugMug control panel settings tab? Make sure that you use the CNAMEd version. The default is usually www.yourdomain.com etc. ex. www.cy-photos.com That is the final connection that must be made when you set the domain up. If you do not do this, the domain will point at the SmugMug homepage. Make sure you do not turn on forwarding at the domain host as that will not work. Contact me us on the help desk if you still have trouble. We would need your domain host login information to make the changes.

It won't work immediately. Mine took 24+ hours to propogate. GoDaddy said to allow 24-48 hours.
