This pic of my watch looks pretty sharp on my monitor but once I transfer it to photobucket, and crop it, it loses image quality, yet I can zoom in on it on my original file and it looks great.
What sort of jpg quality setting are you on?
Also, what is the resolution of the original and what is the resolution of the upload, and what process did you use to resize it?
My original shot is 15mp, about 3.2mb, I'm not sure what the photobucket image is but I just read that with the free version the biggest allowable file is 1mb so I think that is the problem.
I guess I should upgrade my photobucket or use another hosting site?

Doesn't it depend on what you're trying to do with your pics?
I've used PBkt (freebie) for quite a few yrs without this sort of issue / problem - modify / downsize images yourself before uploading there ... and stay within their specs and it'll be ok.

Did I read right that you uploaded to photobucket, then cropped? That might be the issue if you did. Don't personally use photobucket for a lot of stuff, just some one off forum posts of screenshots and the like so don't know for sure.
That is probably because most of the online sites [photobucket, imgshack, facebook etc etc], compress the image (read as - reduce the images size and the quality of the image) ...
