My most beautiful work EVER!!!

By this, I mean my daughter Olivia. She is soon to be 19 (where did the years go :cry) She has been living with my wife's sister and her family, in San Ramon, since the summer after finishing High School. She is going to community college there. We went up this past weekend and she finally let me take some decent photos of her. It was a lot of fun. She's quite the goof ball. She gets that from me. Her looks she gets from her mom. :D

I shot these with my D700 and 28-70 f/2.8 AFS lens. Lighting consisted of a combination of a large reflector and a SB-600 on iTTL BL mode set at an exposure compensation of -.07. It was quite bright out so I shot many of these in the open shade of trees. It's my first time shooting like this outside in a long time.

I went pretty light on the processing since I wanted these to have a fresh feel. I think on all but a couple, I sharpened and set the white/black point with a curve adjustment. On the other two I cloned out a zit she had and added a slight vignette.

Feedback is welcome.

She's gorgeous, Alex (but you knew that :D)

These are all fun shots - five is my favorite. Just a little distracted by the bg's in a couple - no trees growing out of heads per se, but I did find myself noticing bg's more than I would like in 1 &4 (you could crop close in 1 and lose some of it, I think, keeping the attention on that lovely girl).

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. It's great when kids cooperate as models, isn't it? We get to indulge as 'togs and parents iloveyou.gif

Not going to critique these, not about that with this series.
You did a great job of capturing her zest for life, personality and beauty, did I mention she is very pretty :).
I am sure you had the best time taking these photos.
    Very nice photographs!!

Thanks all. I think she is beautiful but I'm her dad so I'm a little biased. Her personality is what makes her so endearing. She is quite the goof and doesn't take herself serious and that is what I tried to capture in these. I'll admit, there are some technical issues with some of them... shadows and sun glare, etc. but we had a lot of fun and I love the shots I captured. Now that I got her to agree to letting me do this, I will try to get more technical on the next shoot.

Here are a couple more of my favs... the first has less going on in the BG and the second is just fun:

    Thanks guys.

@ Sam... hey man, it was great hanging out with you. Had a lot of fun. I think we walked a good 6 miles that day. My wife and I walked about another 22 miles on the two days after. My shins are still sore. I will be posting some of the pics from our walk later this week.

I really like #6. The others are all good, some very good, but #6 is the best in my opinion with her dark hair framing her face and the background & sweatshirt blown out around the hair.

A really lovely series that I'm sure will give you plenty of joy while she is away at school.

I'm here to learn so please feel free to give me constructive criticism to help me become the photographer I desire to be.

I'll say it again: You don't look old enough to have a 19-YO daughter! But she looks like a lot of fun and has such a great smile. In these pics her fun personality really shines through (and I'd expect no less because she's related to you) :)

lovely..though I feel the shots in the shade could use 1/3 stop miore exposure. 6 is wonderfully framed. 5 is the best shot of the face

Beautiful shots, beautiful girl. Exactly what a day in the park should look like. These are really excellent.

You mentioned a reflector with your SB-600. Did you use something like a silver umbrella?

Not an umbrella. Just a 42" round, white reflector. Used it to bounce flash or sunlight as fill.
