Strobing Night Soccer

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I am shooting some early morning soccer practices and I was curious as to how I could use flash to help me get good exposure. I have a Nikon D200 and D70s and as well all know they do rather poorly for night shooting. I posted a picture of my contraption that I use. I have been reading some posts and some people recommended putting the flash below the camera instead of above it. That is what I have been trying to do.

I tried using the setup with my 80-200 2.8 lens, but I didn't get any good shots. I know this can be done, I just haven't figured out how to get it all to work. Any advice is greatly appreciated[/FONT]

Welcome to the Grin

There's a great post a while back about using a setup like yours with a monopod, for football, I'll try to find it later. It should also help on the shadow, but i think the football post was at a shorter distance than your example.
I think that will help, you must be getting tired holding that thing.

But to be honest, I'm not sure how good vivitar flash units are. Not all flashes are created equal.

I have a modified version of Randy's. My bracket has two flashes mounted so I can have half the power per flash and have better recycle time adn have the same total flash power. My flashes are upright at the bottom of the monopod rather than upside down so gravity won't work against the mounting of the flash and maybe weaken the foot. Also, I used a Nikon SC-29 cable to the flashes so I can have TTL.
