FTP Upload (while still using SmugMug APIs)
I would like an easier, more reliable, more standard way to get photos uploaded to SmugMug. I realize there has been some postings about this in the past, but am not clear if this is on SmugMug dev roadmap or not.
I'd like to offer some thoughts around how this could be enabled.
Currently, there are numerous different ways to get photos uploaded to smugmug. For small numbers of photos, the current means are often satisfactory. For larger batches of photos and videos, I'd prefer FTP.
In order to utilize FTP upload and also leverage the SmugMug upload APIs, I'm wondering if something like this would work?
1. SmugMug provides a drop zone where images/videos can be FTPed.
2. SmugMug utility runs every x mins (or when manually triggered) and uses the SmugMug APIs to move artifacts from the drop zone into SmugMug
The benefits of this are that now there is an easy, more reliable, standard way to upload images/videos (there are numerous free and commercial FTP clients for every OS).
Also, the drop zone could be a SmugVault location, which would drive adoption and use of SmugVault.
I welcome any comments and especially would appreciate getting some understanding of if this sort of feature is on current roadmap and/or would be considered.
Thanks very much.
