Have any of you also purchased .net, .us, .biz, .co, .mobi for your Photography domain names?

Would love to hear what others feel about those extensions for your domain name with the obvious .com, .net

It really comes down to what you want the site to do or want to do with the site.

Do you want it to bring business to you through the net, do you want it as a backup or secondary information source through leads genereated through other sources or is it to serve some other purpose?

    For instance....
If you want the domain to bring you leads through search engine's, .com's, nets etc are the best. The ones like Mobi etc are more as money makers for the people that sell them than effective domains.
If your site is a professional one that will be seen by other businesses, then the traditional domains will also be more desirable.

If you are using your website as a backup to say print advertisment where the traffic is all speciically directed to your site, the domain dosen't matter except that shorter and simpler ones will be easier to type in and give people less chance of makeing a mistake entering it.

It's also best to stick to domains of your country.
If you have someting like a .xmt domain, people are more likley to think it is foreign and it may also be ignored by some search engines especially if locally filtered. For a localised product like photography, this is more important than if you are selling something like a product that is available through online delivery and people have less regard as to where it is from.

If available, you may want to get the .com and the .US or whatever domain and then just redirect one to the other to capture as much traffic as possible if thats where you want your leads from.

There is a lot to learn about web marketing and the best source I have found in all seriousness is......
    Porn web master sites.

You don't have to have a porn site to use the info and techniques but the porn industry is the cutting edge of web marketing and what they do filters down. I like to get my info from the top and much of the info for how to make a site raqnk highly in the super mega competitive porn sector is applicable to other sites in making them stand out and be at the top of Search engine listings every time.

Thats what I have followed since '95 when I first put a site online and I have always had my business site in the top 10 on the seach engines. Mostly it's in the top 3 localy ( can't beat a descriptive domain name I missed out on!) and in the top 5 internationaly.

What will get you to a 100th page listing on a search for porn will get you a first page listing on a photography ( and most others) site search every single time! :D
