Epic sunrise over the harbor

Woke up at 4am today without an alarm and figured that had to mean something :dunno Checked cloud cover and expected location for sun rise and made my way down to the water. The harbor is now full of boats and I have been wanting to shoot the sun rise with the lighthouse in view. TPE told me where to set up shop and I ended up with a few new favorites

1. Purple Dawn

2. Can't decide - wavy or smooth??

3. The sun starts to rise

4. Crossing the lighthouse - shot as a -1/0/+1 HDR to bring out the details in the boats while retaining the beautiful light on the sun

5. A few minutes later - also a 3 bracket HDR

paint in the smooth water that way you get the best of both worlds.

Thank you both. I'm struggling with the boats in the first. Are they too blue? I pushed the WB a bit and upped the fill light. Under a purple dawn, I think they would have to have that color though... Appreciate your thoughts.

Also, any votes on the second shot - which do you prefer?

I have a show in town for the month of July and was going to post three of the above as a lead-in for that.
    Thanks

5 for me. Cool photo, maybe take a smidge off the bottom.
The masts create an optical illusion in the first one that it is slightly tilted....looking at the water....looks straight.

Normal to have some color tints at dawn, just do your best to get it how you remember it. I can't say much about the color since this monitor is questionable.

    Wavy or smooth....wavy for me.

To my eye the first three could use small crops from the bottom, the sky reflection in the water is not adding much. Concentrating on the boats and the sky works better....again to my eye....others probably like them fine how they are.

These are all really great! Boats in No. 1 are a bit blue, but certainly acceptable. I like the smooth water in number 2...a more peaceful setting. 5 is also a winner!

Unbelievable! It sounds like you live pretty close to the harbor, which is a great thing. :D

Thank you everyone. Really appreciate the kind words. I have a month-long 'showing' kicking off this Saturday so I was thinking of leading up to it with a post-a-day on my site/blog to build up interest. That meant revisiting these shots repeatedly and now I can't decide if I've gone too far ne_nau.gif
    Are these any better?

Beautiful, Eyal. I love #2 - awesome sky and I think it's improved over the more blue-ish first version - and #4. Nice work, way to take advantage of an unscheduled 4am wakeup!
