Which prime

This question is more specific for wedding photographers. :)

Let's say you already have 70-200mm and you can only add 1 more lens to use and it has to be a prime lens to do a FULL wedding coverage, which PRIME LENS would you pick and why?

    Another +1 for the 35 1.4L
I shoot about 80% of my weddings with only the 35 1.4 and 85 1.2. The other 20% I flip flop between about 6 other lenses, but for the bulk of my work, it's those two primes. So since you have the 70-200 I'd say 35 1.4 is the next one to purchase right now.

351.4. Though rent some primes to match your style!

If you can only have 1, the 35mm. But I would recommend getting a 50 and 24 as the 50 is the perfect standard lens and the 24 helps with tight spaces and shots that encompass the entire room. You could even use a 50mm 1.4 to save cash until you can afford the 1.2.

I'm in this debate as well. I have a shoot coming up in two weeks and the last thing I want to worry about is changing up lenses and missing something.

** It may be important for the OP to state if this is going to be on a full frame or crop sensor body. **

I actually like the 50mm better because there's less edge distortion and it's much sharper.

I wonder if this question is more of a generalization? OP's profile states:

    Equipment
    5D MK II, 50L F1.2, 70-200L F2.8, 24-70L F2.8

So OP has more than just the 70-200.

    I'm a 35 + 85 kinda guy. I'd use a 24 and a 50 too, but if I already had a 24-70, 70-200, and a 50, ...my next prime purchase would be an 85, for sure.

Yes Shima. it's more of a general question. I do have all those lenses on my profile plus 17-40L

Now I am interested in trying out 35L as well because of this thread. I have tried the 85L last weekend but I find it really slow, even outdoors @ high noon! Excellent quality tho but IMHO, not really good for on-the-go type of shooting.

The 85 L is NOT a wedding photography lens. It is much smarter to go with a lens such as the Canon 85 1.8, or the Sigma 85 1.4... MUCH better for on-the-go types of shooting...

For full frame..I suppose some kind of 35mm though I wouldn't be confortable with just that.
    D700, D600
    14-24 24-70 70-200mm (vr2)
    85 and 50 1.4
