Sharing Good News

Not sure this is the right place but I wanted to share some good news.

Porsche Rennssport Reunion IV will be held this year at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey CA. This is huge in the Porsche world. It's a classic / vintage race event with the finest and rarest Porsche's in existence.

Two weeks ago I was talking to an old friend who told me about the event and said he and another old friend were entering their vintage Porsche's. I thought gee that would be fun to go shoot.

Then I thought...................can I get media credentials? I have shot a large 4 day bicycle event at Laguna Seca with media credentials and this really allows you go places others can not and get the shot. I knew it would be a long shot, especially with such short notice.

I started calling all the vintage racing magazines I could find online. I got lucky and ended up getting a sit down with an editor of a vintage racing magazine located not to far from me. Turns out we know quite a few of the same people.

Now the news......She submitted my name for press credentials!! :clap:clap:clap

I have a camping spot and have rented a Canon 300 2.8L IS, and a Canon 1.4 III TC. This coupled with my 7D should give me a lot of reach.

Primarily just sharing but any thoughts from experienced race photographers would definitely be appreciated.

Sam

Sam - Did the editor ask for anything in return for your press credentials?

Don't forget to bring your wide angle too. It's not just about the cars, but about the people as well.

Local freelancer, Robert Redmond, shoots often at the bay area tracks. It's worth spending some time with his images.

jpc, yes of course I need to provide something in return.................photos! :D

Ok I will most likely cover a related event off site from the track for an hour or two one day. The mag will want maybe 10 or 15 good shots of the cars and / or people. I retain copyright, they get to use the images for their mag.

    April,

Not to worry about lenses, I will be taking everything except the kitchen sink. :D

Congrats Sam! I'm envious from both the car and camera perspective. Laguna Seca is a track I want to drive/race someday, but its a very long haul from Maryland. Maybe after I retire...rolleyes1.gif

The first couple of Rennsport Reunions were on the East Coast, but I haven't been able to attend. My 944, from 1984, would have been eligible to participate this year. Maybe if it comes back east next time around.

I really look forward to your pics!!

Quick update: Got the call today...................credentials have been issued!!!!!

While I know the editor would follow through and submit my information the Porsche Renssport Reunion IV is a big event and lot of people are clamoring for a press pass so something could easily have gone wrong.

    Color me happy
