Graduated Filter CS4

I have never used the graduated filter in ACR in CS4. However, I decided to use it on the sky in the following image. I was wanting to use this filter to blend the lighter shade of sky with the darker shade on the right.
When I clicked on the graduated filter icon, and then the list of slider options appeared. None of the sliders are working. I am not familiar with this tool and I was wondering if I am doing something wrong. A tutorial would probably help once I get the sliders to operate.
Any help would me greatly appreciated.

Doesn't look like you're doing enough. The sliders don't change things
until you drag in the image. The changes appear in the area where
