How much traffic is respectable?

I'm not pushing sales, I'm not a 'pro photographer' (but I do pay for a pro acct at Smugmug) and I don't promote my site other than the keywords I add, which of course get picked up in Google searches. For someone like me, would 120,748 photo/video views (just about all photo views) in the last 30 days be a respectable amount of traffic? It seems like quite a lot of views to me. Just trying to figure out where I am compared to some others...whether this is a lot of traffic, mediocre or lame :-)

120,748 views in 30 days seems like a lot to me, but I can't honestly say how this compares with other photographers or where you'd fall in total traffic. But that seems respectable to me!

Holler if you need anything else!

I am not sure I even broke 1,000 views last calendar year. So I would say very respectable.

Thanks :-) It seems most of the traffic is coming from people searching for the Nikon V1. My V1 gallery is the #1 Google search result. I think the visitors are researching the camera (since it's a new product). I'm definitely happy with the traffic. Proof that keywords do work/get seen by search engines.

That is quite good traffic. thumb.gif

I regularly promote my galleries in person and have a following of about 20,000 people locally in my genre. All my galleries are unlisted and are linked from my main website. In the peak months, I see 300,000+, but a normal month is about 100,000. There's people that have 500k months regularly on SM, but I think they're in the top 10 sites on SM. eek7.gif

You're welcome. :) Keep it up!

One of the things to do is look at your referrals. Find your linked images and see if there's conversations attached to them that you can get involved in. That helps with promotion big-time. thumb.gif

Thats the real question isnt it? Views to sales ratio, otherwise your just running a free photo album.

I don't mind running a free photo album. As long as I make a little here and there (not from just smugmug) to pay for my annual subscription, I'm happy. I'm not really into photography to get rich. If it were to happen somehow, I wouldn't complain though ;-)

We get a check from smugmug monthly.... Our intent is also using as a photo album as well. We sell banner type advertising for our smugmug site as well.

This thread piqued my interest, and alas, it seems that I have never really looked at that statistics page in Smugmug! I don't add keywords to any of my pics or galleries, just leave them auto-generated by the title. Hence I would have thought that most people would have been referred via the fact that they just know where to come find their pics after a horse show, BUT, as it turns out, Google is the largest referrer.

I have another business web site, and no matter what the visits are, I am told that a lot of the visits are just the bots crawling my page.. Not sure if that's true..

Mostly I have been looking at the Facebook Insights portal for my site, as it is a good indication of the actual action taking place (besides the actual orders!!)

and I do believe its true.. that there are roads left in both of our shoes..
