    Like the image and the concept. Personally, I wish the eye and the ring were both sharp.

    I disagree with Bryce. I like the shallow DOF for this concept and that one eye is gorgeous.mwink.gif

    Agree with D3 that this could easily be a jewelry tearsheet

    I agree with you John on the DOF, the essence is the ring. Th eeye would distract to much as it is larger.

    I am not much of a people photographer, product is what I like to shoot. Especially watches.

    It was shot with my D7000 and the Nikkor 105. I wanted it shallow from the get go, but I shot one where everything was in focus as well. I did not care for it, it looked flat and boring.

    I shot it hand held and let me tell you.... that's a pain in the butt when trying to focus on something that small.

    I think I would like to see the eye sharp too... My eyes keep getting sucked into the out of focus eye... You could have stacked the focus by shooting the eye in focus & the ring and merging them... Just an idea...
    And hey... I've been married a few times... It's great...
    I'm a Kidnapper... I take terrible pictures of people, then hold them for ransom.

    Maybe that's a good thing :), she is very pretty. Nice rock, great eyes.

    The entire shot seems a bit out of focus to me, still a nice photo.

    Can you post one of the all in focus versions.

    Next time you are taking a shot like this it may make it easier to try continuous focus and let it track for a second before you click.

    You are correct, the whole shot seems out of focus to me too but she liked it enough to serve the intended purpose, a Facebook photo lol.

    I had a very hard time getting the camera to focus on that tiny ring while handheld. I bet even on a tripod it would be a challenge... it's just a really small target to focus on. She was moving... I was moving... pain in the rear if I am honest.

    Haven't tried the continuous focus so I will try a similar shot again. Also, no flash was used and that forced a slightly longer exposure.

    I'll keep on trying. I am at a very entry amateur level and I have much much to learn.

    Thank you for your feedback. I am a big fan of yours and I watch your site like a hawk. :D

    Here is one at f8, 1/125 second, ISO800. About all I could muster hand held. I think the other one was at f3.2 if I remember correctly.

    PS. I just did one at work in 15 minutes or so using PS 7. An antique!!

    The ring is the subject not the eye.

    That's her real eye color, very green. Natural red head with green eyes.

    This is from new years and after a few too many drinks. Pretty much SOTC, D7000, Nikkor 30mm and SB800 bounced off the ceiling.
