Jupiter and some moons

I don't have a telescope, or guided tracking, but I thought I'd try this tonight before we get a few days of overcast stormy skies. I don't know which moons I got*, but there are either three or four visible. I also tried with the 1.4x TC, but the image was not improved. I settled with a faster exposure without the extender.

Details: Canon 40D, 400mm f/5.6 Canon lens @ 1", f/5.6, iso 1600, cropped.

I can only imagine how much better this might be with a new 5DIII :wink. Or maybe a real telescope and proper guiding to eliminate drift. And seen not from Chicago.

* Four largest of the 66 known moons of Jupiter are Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

I can see that if you do get the specialised equipment, this photo is still going to be a special capture for you. Terrific job with what you had. Very skilllful. Isn't light amazing? no matter how far it has travelled to get to your sensor, it's still "clean" and useable.
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.

I remember the first time I saw Saturn with my Canon 12x binoculars, and realized I could see the rings without a real telescope.

It is truly amazing to actually see the moon of Jupiter too, isn't it?
