for how to combine 3 images into 1.

I have a static background of a wall.
I took a series of three blurred photos of a runner going by the wall.
I want to take the first shot of the runner on the left side of the frame and then add the next two shots of the runner in the middle and then right side of the frame.

I tried photomerge and got ghosts.

Imagine this is pretty basic masks/layers....which I never use

If someone could steer me to a tutorial on how to do this I would appreciate it. I have Elements 9.

Mike, I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are wanting to do.

Are you wanting three images striding across the background, or are you trying to merge the three images in some manner?

If you want three separate images of the runner in different strides, passing across the back ground, you are going to have to select each of the runners from your images, and then drop them onto your background of your wall where you want them to appear.

I do not use Elements, so I am uncertain if you can do the selections needed, or not.

That was written with CS3 but CS5 still uses the same basic tools, and helps allow you to defringe a selection so that when it is dropped onto the background in a new layer, it blends nicely.

Is this kind of the technique you are asking about, or do you have something different in mind?

can you post small copies of what you have? The technique can be slightly different depending on the source material...

Yes your photo shows what I am looking for. I did find some layer mask tutorials for Elements 9, I think I have it figured out enough to give it a try, just wondered if someone had an exact application tutorial somewhere.

Actually this is the only one I've ever done.

I literally just messed around until I got it right, but I do have some layers experience to draw on.

However, the concepts are very easy. Stack them in layers, and paint through to reveal your subject to the upper layer. I poked around and found a very simple tutorial that should get you started. http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/how-to-create-action-sequences-in-photoshop/

If you google "photoshop action sequence", you should be able to find a bunch more. It's a pretty popular manipulation.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll enjoy doing this and will learn some new skills in the process.
