Problem with pro pricing

I want to know if I'm the only one seeing this. Pro account, custom pricing. Price a gallery at Smugmug default (i.e. cost) and see if it sticks. In all cases, each time I try to do this, the prices disappear and my portfolio prices kick in. Seeing as how I had three galleries that I believed were priced at-cost, and were not, I'm not sure how badly I've affected my reputation with a given base of clients.

i just did what you asked (mac, safari and firefox).

changed pricing to default (using the menu choice near top of custom pro pricing screen) then scrolling to bottom, i clicked update pricing. voila.

are you perhaps missing this last step? please let us know, thanks.

Now.... go back to gallery pricing and see if all those entry boxes are still non-blank... Or log out and try to buy something from that gallery and see what price comes up. Your portfolio price will be what takes effect, not at-cost pricing.

    hi bill :D

it's all clear to me now...

please refer to the pro pricing help page
Note: If you've set portfolio prices and want to sell prints from one of your galleries at smugmug's default prices, we have to apologize for an inconvenience. You'll have to set the prices for that gallery above smugmug's default prices, such as a penny higher.

    hope this helps...

Actually that page does not describe what is happening to me. For example, under the category of Gallery Pricing it says "4. Set the prices for this gallery as you did your portfolio prices, above. For any fields you leave blank that are not blank in your portfolio prices, smugmug will use the value you set for your portfolio."

What it does not say is what happens if you put in an entry the Smugmug default price for that item. In this case it actually defaults back up to your portfolio price, which is the same as leaving the entry blank. The only way around this is to set the gallery item price at "cost plus one penny". That fact is not addressed in this help section.

i'm awfully sorry this is causing you troubles, bill. this is how cascading pricing works though. it looks at image>gallery>portfolio. becuase you have portfolio pricing set, you have to go add .01 to each item.

I think a re-write of the help page would be beneficial. I understand the cascading nature just fine. And as documented currently, it says that if you provide a price for the image, that price is used. If blank, then it uses the gallery price. If that is blank, then it uses the portfolio price. Finally, if that is blank, it uses the default price.

This help page is not entirely accurate, as we now know. For example, not only if the gallery price is blank do we use portfolio price, but also if gallery price is idential to default price, we also use portfolio price. The web page only talks about blanks. Certainly, explicitly saying ".25 for a 4x6" is not a blank.
