I shot these the other day and would like your opinions. I mainly shoot sports but have been trying to shoot more portraits and weddings. I just got some B1600 Alien Bees and a 24x32 softbox and VAGABOND MINI power pack that is awesome. Anyway please pick these apart as I feel it worked out great this was just practice for a wedding I'm shooting in June.

I agree with Charles. This is not an easy task and you did a great job. Love #2.

You lighting and exposure are very nice. You've blended the strobes with the ambient to keep things looking nice and natural. But for my taste, I'd like the portraits to be much closer on your subjects and less background (like #5, which is gorgeous).

Thank you very much and yes I agree very much with what yuo said about more subject, I was practising more for a wedding and my subject for this is very little. So I was going more for the sky and backgrond with the strobes. Thanks again very well appreciated!!

I agree with all the comments posted and agree that these are awesome pictures. I have the same setup, but I have a 86" PLM with the diffuser sock. I can tell your light modifier is a little small, but I dont think I have ever gotten this close to good shot shooting into the sun! Good stuff!

There's nothing technically wrong. Here's what I would say the problem is: Controlling the sun with no ND filter requires f11-f22 or thereabouts. That automatically equals this: your background must be really freakin' interesting. Images 2, 3, & 5 tell a story and the background (railing, yard, etc.) fits the story. The rest of the images are throwaways in my opinion. Overpowering the sun is only a good idea if the entire scene is interesting and makes sense.

very nice control of the light..they still look a "touch" flashy to me. How far was light box from the subject?

get the light box just out of frame..looks like a few feet might work. it will soften up that lght considerably.

I like #5 & #5 both for different reasons, First one for nice capture of background with subject & second one for classic portrait capture.

There are 2 #5 in your set, so first #5 is one with more background but last one is more of a portrait. :).
