PocketWizards and sync speed

Looking at investing in pocketwizards and noticed the max sync speed for one of the models is 1/800th/sec. Does that really mean I can sync my flash with a shutter speed that fast or is my camera's sync speed the limit? Also, does it matter if I am using an Alien Bee Strobe or a speedlight?

    I've seen pictures using AB's that are using the TT5 Hypersync to get to 1/8000.
    The key is having a strobe with a relatively long pulse duration. You generally need to run the strobe full power to maximize how long you have light dumping, but you can get much higher than Xsync using the TT5.

    I've shot AB800s with my Flex units at 1/8000. Just did it last week in fact. You get a little bit of a vignette on full frame, but on my D7000 the frame is totally clear at that speed. You can get 1/4000 clean on full frame.

    What kind of Pocket Wizards? What camera? And yes, it does matter what kind of lights. You should root around on PW's website. It's full of good stuff.
