Daily macro/close-up - Rob Ashcroft

I know it's been done to death, but I thought I'd try doing a macro/close-up a day. Can't do one every day - on some days I'm too busy browsing lenses I can't afford :rofl

I'll submit one per post. Any comments much appreciated. I'll start a new thread each month otherwise it will get a bit too much to navigate.

23-03-13 "Security"

Shot on white paper with a single studio head behind the keys to give heavy contrast. Converted in Silver Efex Pro. Canon 5DM2 Canon 100mmL macro.

The studio flash did quite a lot of the work in-camera as the light was behind the subject and the keys were very reflective. The conversion in Silver Efex did push the contrast further though.

24-03-13 "One pin safety"

Shot with just one safety-pin, but multiple shots. I moved the pin around between shots. In Bridge I selected all the images and loaded them to layers in Photoshop, then changed the blend mode to 'darken' which merges them together.

30-03-13 "I rule!!!"

One ruler sandwiched between two polarizing filters - one of which was a white screen in Photoshop on my large PC monitor screen (screens are polarisers to a camera). Took one shot then layered it and rotated the layers to make it look like there were three - then blended them with layer mode of 'darken'.

01-04-13 Diskjointed

Two CD's, one half on top of the other placed near a window with vertical strip blinds. The strips of the blinds with the light coming through helped give the strips of colour. Natural light only. Colours boosted a little in Photoshop, but apart from that it's a 'straight' shot.

02-04-13 "Locked"

Shot today on an old farm door on the Gower, West Wales. Panasonic G3 with 14-45mm lens plus Raynox 250 macro clip-on lens. The lens front was about 2 inches from the padlock - it gets that close. natural light only (sunny day)

This is a cotton ribbed table placemat. I was sitting at the table playing with folding it and then pulling the ends together, and thought it created an interesting shape.
