    Family shop
    Hi

So many interpretation on that theme...

My family owns a shop in Le Havre since 1870!!! yes, you read right, more than 140 years !!!
The current location of the shop is in the town center, in the buildings rebuilt after the war. They have an architecture by Perret which is classified at the Unesco patrimonial. We have the first block of the rebuilding in our shop ! It opened in 1954.

I am more of a landscape photographer but I tried some objects this time. And the light in the shop makes it very difficult to take good pictures...

Here is a photo taken in the back of the shop with an old calculator:
    1. Accounting
    P1000017-L.jpg

Before, people used to wear gloves all year around and wear them to match their clothes. So we were only selling that. Here are our gloves drawers with the tools to prepare the gloves to try them on the customers.

    P1000010-L.jpg

Nowadays my mum manage the shop and we are selling a lot more than gloves but it remains our core business. I am not very commercial so I do not work in it. But I grew up in that shop...

And for info, here is what the Perret's architecture looks like:

I hope you enjoy the pictures and the background. My first time shooting things. I can already see a lot of defects but would appreciate comments and improvement suggestions.

Love "Old Ways". Was it a draft horse?

    Hi GrandmaR,

My wife (she knows horses) thinks it was a "Cob" - I'm sorry ... I really don't know much about horses I just enjoy shooting them (so to speak!) - I'm off to the Badminton trials for the weekend soon - if that means much to anyone outside the UK.

    people are confusing the intent?
    - should I go dig for old pictures, or take new shots and then either or by PP and compostion make it look was taken a few decades ago at least?

The intent is to use recent photos that have nothing in them that reminds the viewer of the past 20-30 years.

You can process them to make them look like they were taken back in the day. Pretend you're Matthew Brady or someone like him. mwink.gif This is using the image to take the viewer back in time.

Or, you can just take a regular color or B&W image and compose it in such a manner that it includes little or nothing in it that reminds us of the past 20-30 years. This is using the actual scene itself to take the viewer back in time.

    Hope this helps.

Oh I wish I were going with you!! I just sold on ebay the video I bought of Badminton (and Burghley) in 1984.

A Cob works - not a designation we use much here, but I know what it means.

How about posting a photo that actually WAS taken back in the day which might be a current one?

REMOVED FROM CONSIDERATION FOR MC #161:

    That 70's Family
    VoyageOfTheUgly--018-S.jpg
As much as I like this shot, it is an actual Afgachrome slide from 1976. I now understand this MC is intended for more current shots that evoke earlier times.

I've edited my original post [#13] to replace the above image with one taken on the 28th of March. It's the former home of Ganna Walska, the creator of Lotusland near Santa Barbara. Definately worth the visit if you're in the area, but it's reservation only and not open every day or all year. Check out the website.

Thank You. I knew T-storms were in the area so I headed out hoping the skies would be spectacular for a shoot, but I had no idea they would be that impressive.

    1. Horse Cart, at the temples of Bagan. I felt like I had gone back in time to get the shots. Very much like an Indiana Jones feeling, exploring the unknown!

    DSC_3149-L.jpg

    2. Fishing techniques on Inle Lake haven't changed in over a 100 years. Actually if you go far enough South on the lake it feels like hardly anything has changed in the past 100 years.

    DSC_2267-L.jpg

    3. Self explanatory, how far back in time it goes, I'm unaware, is anyone?

Judging by the car - probably mid 60's if it was a new car.

Most interesting theme, Linda! And such a wide variety of interpretations.

Seein's how I only this moment (with something like 12 hrs. til deadline and it's near bedtime here in Asia) managed to poke in here, I guess I won't be able to to participate in this challenge. But I shall be cheering everyone on from the sidelines and enjoying all the digital pixels!

    On second thought...

Coincidentally, I was just tonight fiddling with an image I took
in the early 90's in China for my blog, and it fits the (relatively) "recent" photo yet effectively looks
like it could be a hospital straight out of WWI, no?

So many great pictures with different interpretations!
Mines look so boring in comparison...
I especially like Old ways by Alan's grin, especially the church by desert Dave, horse cart by isdilly and car lands by ChrisJ.

Good luck for the voting Linda! Will be difficult...
