How the heck do you catch these? Press the shutter when you think you see a strike? I've never been too lucky at lightening and now where I live I hardly see any lightening at all! When I do it's something very special.

It is certainly something i will look into Ed but the other night we got 10 000 strikes in 2 hours so i have plenty of lightning. Its more positioning that i have difficulty with.

    Do you use it ?

No, but I've considered it more than once, but a $400 toy ( after having to buy an extra cable ) is just a bit more than I can justify for the amount of lightning we get..

I use a five second exposure and set the camera to fire every six seconds. After one or two you can get exposure correct add a bit of luck and your home free.

Yahoo!!! Ain't that a honey thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif This is really good picture. your composition is perfect. I mean look at it !!! you've got a nice frame and a foundation. That makes it rock solid and gives a feeling of security. And then there's this incredible bolt smack dab in the middle between your frame. It's so right. I love it.

My problem is jeff is that i could use it almost every day & every night here in summer, i just never get sick of watching lightning or looking at photos of it.

Im going to buy one i recon. I will have to put an order in with the head cook & bottle washer though...she keeps a damn close eye on me & the credit card.

I don't think that link works any more. I read about the Lightning Trigger on The Luminous Landscape about a year ago, but I cannot find an active vendor any where on the web. Any one else know a a reliable source for a lightning trigger?
Maybe liablility concerns cancelled their business plans??

For USD$329, you'd think they'd include the cable...

You definetly need the USD$53 cable.

The compatibility looks to be the amount of time between trigger and
exposure. So if you preset the exposure (manual mode), it takes 65ms
to fire the shutter. If you let the camera decide (TV or AV mode), he
doesn't know. I'm guessing it's going to be in the 250-300ms range based
on some of the other listings.

The longer the lag time, the less lightning you'll catch.

I think it's pretty cool how you can also trigger using a remote control
    for your TV :D
