Please remove the 255 keyword list limit when someone uses the list keywords function. While you are at it, please figure out why so many keyword functions are so broken...look at how many threads there are on all these forums about the non-functioning keyword software.

I can't understand this limit. Although I know viewers can explicitly request the keyword page on my site I haven't exposed it because it shows so few of my keywords. It gives a very skewed view of the keywords on my site - and it leaves me no reasonable way to check my keywords to ensure I am being consistent when adding keywords to new photos.

The /keyword page should show all keywords.

Yes, please. My keywords are player names from nine years of shooting baseball; a 255 limit grossly overweights players who were active, say, 2005-2009 and leaves out everyone who debuted in 2013. I would totally understand having an option for a more limited "top keywords" cloud. I don't understand at all enhancing customization in other areas while placing a draconian limit on what would seem to be a very simple "all keywords" option.

On my Preview (not live) site, I added wording on my keyword page that all keywords do not show up and that users can use the SEARCH function and find missing items. Now I also need to go to the SEARCH page and let people know that if the system shows 1000 found items, then there are probably more than 1000 and they are maybe only going to see 140 images - but maybe only 70. However, I pretty much can't tell them how to find them.

There are bugs in the SEARCH routine, too!!!! Just did a search in the SEARCH function for a keyword I have "brunswick". It comes back and tells me there are 1000 images found and lays up images 7 wide on my screen. I then count 20 images per column. That means it returned ONLY 140 of the 1000 images (I have more) and did not have a NEXT PAGE type of option. SO, I go back to SEARCH and type in "brunswick yacht" or "brunswick shrimp" (did both - forgot which gave which result) and one said I had 500 something images and one said 704 images. Gave back only 140 viewable images. And usually after scrolling back to the top, the number of images found at the top of the page says "0" instead of the 500 or 704 or 1000. And when I tried again just looking for 'brunswick" which gave me 1000 and then adding to the string either it was "yacht or shrimp" it STILL told me 1000 instead of 500 or 704. ANd during one of those searches that said either 1000, 500, or 704, it only gave me 70 images. SO THERE IS A PROBLEM! I will be adding this to the BUG section of DGRIN.

Even if there is a good technical reason for the display limit (255 for keywords, 1000 images for search), why couldn't a "More Results" button be added to the bottom of the list in order to get the next 255 keywords (or 1000 images)?

I've unveiled and discovered that keywords and searching are effectively broken for my visitors in the new release. Please give this attention as soon as possible.

If that is true then I'd offer to suggest that Smart galleries are now also broken?

    bump!

Can we get some attention for this problem? Right now I haven't exposed my keyword cloud because there are more keywords that are missing than are showing. I can't begin to imagine why setting a displayed keyword list to 255 was even considered let alone implemented.

Would this get more attention if it was filed as a bug report?

Limiting the keyword content block to 255 renders it useless IMO. Unless SM does something about this soon I'll have to resort to developing a workaround.

See this thread for a WORKAROUND method to get around SM's Keyword limit. You will have some work to do, but the effort works. Look pretty far into the thread for Allen's solution. Be sure to read all the rest of the thread to avoid gotchas. SM STILL needs to address the whole keyword mess. They are suppose to be working on it.

Unfortunately there isn't a way that I am aware of to use the workaround unless you still have a legacy smug site available. For those of us who have already unveiled the full keyword list isn't available.

@Denise - OUCH! I forgot to mention that. Hmmm, maybe SmugMug could come up with a fast, down and dirty EXPORT KEYWORDS to text file.

Gosh, I thought I comprehended this problem of the keyword content block, but I did not realize that they completely cause us (and our viewers) to completely lose access to our full /keyword page when we migrate! You're right; I just looked for www.denisegoldberg.com/keyword , the page that would have taken me to all of your keywords in the past, and now that page is only showing 19 lines of roughly 8-12 keywords (I didn't count the exact number, but that would be under 255; perhaps as few as 180. So that link has switched ( ! ), taking us to the old limited list instead. And your www,denisegoldberg.com/keywords page, which used to take us to the limited list, now gets us "Page Not Found"! Ugh. And if you capitalize the "K" as we sometimes did, you get "Page Not Found" as well. Please, SmugMug!!

Smugmug system page /keyword still works on NewSite and legacy. Legacy shows all keywords.
    NewSmug only shows about 255.

This is not referring to new the keywords widget added from the "add content" area of the flyout
drawer although it only shows the very limited amount of approx. 255. This is understandable as
legacy did the same in the homepage keyword box.

The second limiting factor is after clicking any keyword in the NewSite content widget,
NewSite /keyword page or under any photo, the keyword gallery opened is limited to 1000 photos.
    Legacy site was not limited.

Using the NewSite /search page searching on a keyword results in all keyword photos, no limit,
but clicking the found photos does not open the keyword gallery but takes you to their gallery.

I think I submitted a separate feature request asking for an option in the Search page similar to what legacy smugmug does...where you can click a found keyword and go to a keyword gallery.

Currently the new search has various links to see groups of results:
    Photos Galleries Videos Photos-Videos

It seems like just adding another item there "Keywords" would be lovely.

A keyword page should show ALL KEYWORDS, not a subset as selected by something other than the site owner. I need all keywords to show on this page.

Bump for a comment from smug...

Yeah, the current limited keyword implementation, gives you thumbs of what was found and and image. Does not seem to let you go to the gallery where the image is. Allen's "fix" shows you large thumbs, and can take you right to the image in the gallery if you want. Warning, if you have gone live, you are out of luck.

    Michael -
I view this as critical. My viewers can't select by keyword and I can't see what keywords I've used. Yes, I know, I could expose the current tiny keyword list but I've chosen not to since the 255 keywords shown are not representative of those on my site.

The keyword list should be unlimited. The display page could have a site owner set limit but it should be able to show ALL KEYWORDS.

Keyword (smugmugs version) is now returning up to 5000 images now. I have keyword attached to WAY more than 5000 images. SmugMug is forgetting it has power users with thousands and thousands of images and we are generally paying MORE than what it seems SM is programming towards. Allen's method finds them ALL. Still have the 255 keyword list limit.

As I posted in feedback, here is a solution. Have a /keyword for the folks happy with 255. Then have a /keywords (plural) for an ALL keywords page. :)

The 255 limit should only be for the keyword widget box dragged to a page. Completely separate
    from the /keyword "system" page.

Exactly. And while I understand Southeastern's point that the plural form of "keyword" would've probably made more sense for the page with ALL keywords, it wouldn't make sense to switch the two now, as long-time users here have used them as they are for eons. I'd just be happy to have the ALL keywords page ( /keyword) back in the New Smug, & am fine with them keeping the same path for it. Also, if the two switched, gazillions of forum links pointing to one or the other will be switched also, creating even more confusion!!

I took a vote off one of my other wishes & added it. However, at least one of the comments already there shows people really don't understand the issue. Someone is talking about search engines seeing this as spam, & it sounds like he thinks we're talking about allowing more than 255 keywords per photo or something...aargh. Makes me wonder again how many people don't realize our limit under a photo is already just (30 or 50 ??... I can't even remember myself!!!) But anyway, this page... people... it's a whole different animal!

That's true. Mostly because of the issues being stated. Why go live when your legacy is working fine and NEEDS some of the missing or changed items in NEW. Waiting to see what gets fixed, while we still can, makes perfect sense. I am still using PREVIEW for various of the issues. I am using code to get over some issues. I am hoping before going live, I will be able to get rid of the extra code and just select buttons. If certain things I have code for conflict with new built-in routines, I would like to know while in Preview instead of having customers tell me my site is broken! Now that's just me. I know there are some great new live sites that are working fine for their purposes. Just explaining, calmly I hope, why "Some of them aren't even using the new SmugMug yet".

I had thought earlier that once you unveiled, no one including yourself would see any keywords on your /keyword page (the one that on Legacy produces ALL of your keywords) but I thought you & your visitors would, once unveiled, be able to see your /keywords page... and it would have 255 keywords if you'd used that many. So are you sure you aren't talking about the /keywords page?

On my Preview site /keywords gives me the 404 Page not found.

Live and Preview don't have a full keyword list [yet] and there are issues with the number of the 255 that show up. I actually removed the SM 255 /keyword content box. I might add it back and see what it is giving now.
