32 GB CF Card Laundry Instructions

:dunno... I forgot to read them - before putting my card through a warm water wash. I had stashed it in the back pocket of my jeans as a spare and it somehow went into the laundry undetected. Has anyone else done this before? I'd really like to keep using my card, is that possible? How much dry out time should I give it? I am kind of worried that I might shorten out something camera internal if it's still wet - or is that silly?

Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks,
Jana

Laughing.gif. I did this once. Hubby left it in his shirt pocket after a wedding (it was not used - I hold the used ones!) - I check PANTS, not SHIRTS before doing laundry... ne_nau.gif

Anyway... It still works fine, years later. I wrote "Went through the wash but still works" on it with a sharpie and it makes me laugh every time we use it. (We don't use it for weddings anymore just in case, but we use it for personal stuff all the time with no problems)

Oh, thank you for the encouraging reply! Okay, I'll let it dry out for a little and then give it a try. At least it's now one clean memory card, I imagine I can still sense a lingering hint of "Tide" :D .

Put the card in a container of uncooked rice. It will absorb the moisture from the card.

Washed a Sony Memory Stick once. No damage. Was only 256MB, but way back then, that would store something like 500 pictures. The rice trick works for so many things besides memory cards.

Thanks for the reminder guys - I forgot about the rice thing, but it's resting in Uncle Ben's finest right now :)

Update: I've been using this card frequently since fishing it out of that Uncle Ben's jar and it's been working just ricely ever since mwink.gif ! No, seriously - no issues with that card whatsoever so far, so I guess combined with other posters experiences we can say that it's not a total loss if you accidentally send a card through the wash-and-tumble. At least not a fairly sturdy CF card like mine.

Warm water? It's probably just a 31.25GB now.
