They are tough birds to shoot, very skitish and the white spots are easy to blow out. You nailed it. Excellent work.
It is a pretty place..........golly your duck looks like he's swimming in a river of gold

So sharp, clear: clarity would be the correct word for many of the things you photograph and these ducks, with their bright colors, they suit your style perfectly.
what lens are you using again? I know we are apples/oranges, but you look close enough to touch those ducks.
beautiful place, you are correct.
Waking up again, it is overcast here. I am triple discouraged at our lack of birds. I was thinking that we must be in between "seasons" for the birds. I know that birds winter here, and that they are prevalent more in the winter months, whenever that is, but the leaves off the trees helps to see them.
However, some birds are migrating to Harry's place, I would think. I have not seen many birds at all. Egrets......................only egrets. And a few Great Blues who appear more easily spooked than in the summer. I have not shot one recently, have spooked a few. I have seen Tricolored Herons, they are smallish, but I have shot quite a few.
In the summer I saw no Tris, it was all about the GReat Blues, now it is all about the Tris. They all spook easily, but the Tris are prevalent enough that I have my shots.
I can't find the raptors.
I guess I should find out why it is cloudy and how long to expect this to last.
I love your ducks, am hyped now!

Thanks Greaper and Good Morning
Boy you are so right ...... they are really tough to exp for and the pond they live in, is full of deep shade and bright light.
Almost 90% of the 120+ shots went straight to the trash :cry
Manual + Fill Flash is the way to go and I'll be going back shortly to try and do better
Really want to show the beautiful colors these duck possess in various lighting condition.

ginger (the sun is coming out, but I still don't know where all the birds are, even if I were up to walking miles, and I am not!)

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

You know I would kill to go shoot where you live you folks have some of the most interesting and odd and deadly wildlife I've ever seen (and only here
Also I could be wrong but you may have captured a female. The female Wood Ducks at this pond pale in comparison to the males. Maybe when I go back this week I'll shoot some female and show the difference
Either way you've captured your duckys well
