A bit blury

Hi All,

I am a beginner studio photographer.
When I just started, I was amazed by the clarity and resolution of my first pictures in studio.
Better camera, backgrounds and flash equipment amazed me.

Few months later I got used to that and started to see that my pictures not that great.
They are a bit blury and unfocused. After asking my husband, he didn't see any of it.
So I guess that my senses got more sensitive

I am wondering what's going on. what could be the problem?
I am focusing well (in the eye), I am choosing best manual parameters.

Is it me? My equipment? something else?
Would appreciate your good advice.

Please show us specific examples of the issues and what you wish to improve upon.

As I recall, you are using a consumer super-zoom lens, specifically the Tamron AF 18-200 mm F3.5 - F6.3 Di, or possibly the version II of that lens.

Consumer super-zoom lenses are always a compromise in optical construction, but ultimate sharpness is not a primary goal. A prime lens, with a focal length determined by your needs and space requirements, should give you the greatest opportunity for image sharpness.

For example, here is a link to a comparison between your lens and a Canon EF 85mm, f1.8 USM, a very sharp, and reasonably priced, lens used for head-shots and head-and-shoulders portraits.

Move your mouse pointer over the image to display the Canon lens, and off of the image to display your current lens. Note the rather strong improvement in image quality for the Canon 85mm, f1.8.

I do prefer the flexibility of a zoom lens for 3/4 length and full-length portraits. The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is about as good as it gets, with sharpness approaching some primes at f5.6:

While the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM will fit your Canon EOS 550D/Rebel T2i, it will not fit a full-frame body like the Canon 5D series cameras.

Still, I love the results of the Canon 17-55mm for most subject matter:

Lens Selection
Hi There Dgrinners,

Need your great advice once again.

I am a studio photographer and I've been using Tamron 18-200 lens.

I am not happy with sharpness of my pictures and want to buy more expensive lens.

I need this only for studio photography and I have 550D canon body that I want to keep for now.

Please advice.
