Recent Galleries are not working

This just started to happen this evening. My site has a page to display the 20 most recent photos and one row of most recent galleries (6). Everything was working fine for over a week but this evening the recent galleries displays all of my galleries and not just the six most recent ones. I checked through customize gallery and the settings are still OK i.e. select from recent and limit display to one row.
