In Minnesota, the temps were up today. So I went to the Nature Park to see
what I could see.

I came upon a snake. I don't know what kind it is. But he/she posed nicely.
It was 18 - 24 inches long.

Canon D Reb 300, Canon 70-300is. Hand held. Psssst, the i.s. works great on this lens.

It was unusually warm here as well. I spent the day at the botanical gardens...camera in hand :)

Not a fan of snakes, but I reallly like the clarity of the first one!

    Thanks folks.

After looking on the net, I think it's a Northern Water Snake.
The pics looks pretty close, and they say there's a wide varience in the coloring.

As for the last warm day, it got to 71 degrees (F) today. We may not see that
again for 6 months.:cry No more birding this year.

I like the #3 headshot of the little serpant you got.

Low 60's in Chicago. We traveled up noth to Lake Forest to get some shots for a book cover. Just a beautiful sunny clear day. Could be one of our last. I think we got lucky with the weather for the shoot this afternoon.

That might be a young rat snake. I'd have to be too close with my camera to get shots like that. My shot would be as I held my camera behind my back and ran the other way.

    #3 he's looking at me!
Hard for me to choose between #1 and #3. #1 would win out if not for that dang twig.

    Dave, Storm, thanks.

That darn twig caused all kinds of trouble. When I tried to move it out the
way, it freaked and took off. I had a heck of a time keeping an eye on it
with all the downed leaves. But I managed.

It may be a rat snake, I don't know. I'm just guessing. I haven't seen any like
    this before.

    Thanks again.
